PPnP Character Record Updated

Postby Boredflak on Thu Jun 07, 2007 4:40 pm

There are several excellent new additions to our character record sheet:

  • Tweaks: All fields have been minutely re-sized and aligned. Many superfluous or inappropriate settings have been removed.
  • Insertion of character portrait: You may now imbed a picture file into the sheet.
  • Automated size modifier: Set your character's size, and the size modifier is automatically calculated.
  • Trained only skills: Skills that require training to use now show a dash (instead of a modifier) if they are untrianed.
  • Blank skill lines: You now have five empty slots to fill in skills that aren't already listed.
  • Skill specificity: You may now indicate the specific Craft, Knowledge, Perform, or Profession skills you have trained.
  • Iterative attack bonuses: Base iterative attack bonuses for melee and ranged combat are now automatically calculated.
  • Coin weight: The weight of coins is automatically included in treasure weight carried. You might want to convert some of those gold pieces to gems...
  • Next level XP Goal: Just set your character's Equivalent Character Level (ECL) and the number of experience points necessary for your next level is automatically calculated.

A special thanks goes out to Orci who provided all of the excellent scripting and special techniques needed in this update.

That's really neat, a useful tool to have certainly particularly for new players.

Just for a lark I tried putting an Ogre Barbarian I'm playing in a Dawnforge campaign in there.
Overall it works very well, The only outright error I noticed is it did not revaluate movement in the encumbrance section relative to the movement typed elsewhere (my ogre bard has 50 movement and it still listed 30 as my base move in the encumbrance section)

Skills Wise I think that size and armor bonuses for skills should be shown, as to some these values might appear to be math errors on the part of the sheet rather than just a hidden value, I think it's awesome that it runs the numbers I just think showing the work would be preferable
I think (at least in my case) It may also be useful to have more space for undeclared skills In Dawnforge the legendary character rules allow you to change the ability score used for skills, In my case I needed to add a intimidate as a strength skill so in a few levels I'm going to exceed the 5 allotted.

I would also consider it indispensable to have a breakdown of stat points into their formula as with AC thus (12 base +2 race +6 enhancement +3 level +1 inherent etc...) the present sheets leave no room to show the work done to arrive at the ability scores shown.

I very much Like the boxes used to track Hp rolls, good idea that, though to save space that could be a single wide box.

I sense that this sheet would not handle the complexity of some higher level characters with racial abilities, feats,, abilities, multiple PrC dips, artifacts etc and would suggest (once this one is entirely finished) That you perhaps develop something legal sized to make more room for magic items, abilities, classes etc.

The way the text resizes to fit into boxes is excellent, though sometimes it gets finicky about accepting certain characters such as spaces in this way. (perhaps upgrading to the latest reader will fix it)

One last item, the file size is a little heavy, I don't know how much of that is code but if possible a reduction in size would be most helpful to improve archiving for control freak DMs like me who like a record of past character levels.

Once again, overall exceptional! I hope the constructive criticism is helpful. Jans & Orci, you are both scholars and gentlemen! This site is gonna be great!
