Weapon Attributes and Size

Postby norsegodloki on Wed Feb 10, 2010 2:38 pm

Ok so I have a +1 longsword with the flaming attribute which does 1d8+1+1d6 fire damage, if I were to gain size via spell or magic to gargantuan size (7th level spell Giant Size). My +1 longsword which has changed size with me to gargantuan now does 6d6+1+1d6 points of damage? Wouldn't a gigantic flaming sword do more flame damage then just 1d6?
So my question is; does size change the attribute damage?

Loki,

No, because the flame attribute on the sword is conferred by adding the effect to the weapon. There's no weapon size-to-magic-effect relationship.

See I kinda figured that would be the answer... but being hit by a pixie sword of shocking and then a frost giant mace of shocking both give an extra 1d6 points of electrical damage. I see some issues with this but in the aspect of game play it is just easier to assign it that way.

If you're having trouble figuring out how this rule might translate in game world terms, it might if you think about it like this: when you imbue a weapon with that magic attribute, you're conferring a specific amount of magic energy to that weapon. So a tiny weapon with a flaming ability might be burning brightly with flames and sparking, whereas a medium weapon would only have a coating of flames, and a huge weapon would merely seem red-hot, with no flames sprouting from it. In all cases, the energy transferred from the weapon to the victim on a hit is 1d6.

Of course, this rambling of mine has little to do with rules. It's merely an aid in imagining and describing this particular effect.
